I just did an update to 7.0.24 and it's buggy. Is there any way to go back? (The mouse pointer is over a square off and it doesn't get better by increasing the zoom--when I got the zoom increased to about 400% it stopped showing about half of the area I was working on)

Thanks

Well apparently, the stitches get off worse at the bottom of a large design, and I just happened to be starting a large project at the bottom just as I did the upgrade.

Anyway, I did figure out that the pointer works the best at 175% zoom and it starts getting off if you get smaller or larger zooms.

Oh! Thanks for the head's up! I was actually downloading the update when I read this - I won't use this update, I'll wait and see if there's another update later on and see if that's buggy too or if it's stable.

Just when I thought that this version of PCStitch was abandonware. It hadn't had an update in I forget how long - year or two maybe? A long time anyway!

Ann,

Just because a product is not updated, does not mean it's abandoned. It just means that no update has been issued.

Both Standard (version 7) and Pro (Version 8) are still supported.

Even the older versions are still covered by copyrights and so therefore are NOT abandoned.

What version were you running before the update? The only changes we have made to version 7 recently are pretty minor, and I can't imagine anything of this magnitude going unnoticed.

What version of Windows are you running? How large is the pattern you are working on?

It may be easier to figure out what is going on via email if you want to email me at mmiller@pcstitch.com.

For Dragonlair: no offense meant.... please don't bite my head off!

I have some software from another company that I bought about 3 years ago. There have been no updates since. I've e-mailed the company's owners several times and there have been no replies. The source code on the web site shows 2003.

I'm assuming it's abandonware.

Since there were no updates for PCStitch 7 in aeons, only to the Pro version, I had thought only the Pro version was all that was being updated because it had more features and was more expensive to buy.

Since I only could afford the non-Pro version at the time, that is what I bought. Then like I mentioned there hadn't been any updates in a year, maybe two so that's why I thought it might be 'abandonware'.

I'm glad your sig writes 'There is no such thing as a stupid question', otherwise I might really be offended by the tone of your answer.

...mine was a simple question. Not stupid, just wondering.

Ann,

I wasn't biting your head off. I didn't mean anything bad.

I saw a list of "abondonedware" once that included an older form of Everett Kaser's Sherlock game on it. I notified him and he was upset to find it on the list. Sherlock is one of his first (and best-selling) games.

I was just pointing out that there is a difference. If you cannot find a site then I would assume the product to be abandoned. I still have (unopened) a returned envelope with un-cashed check for a product I tried to license 20 years ago. I keep it as proof that I tried to license it in case it ever comes back.

Another product I have is truly abandoned as there is no web-site (from prior to the internet explosion) and the last time I tried the 800 number I got something totally off the wall. A google of it shows nothing.

I point these out to show that abandonware does exist but a lack of updates is not an indication of it. A total lack of success trying to find the copyright owner is a sign.

Older versions of a product do not normally qualify as abandoned, just un-supported (such as PCStitch 5 and 6). After a certain point, it makes more sense to insist upon an update to a supported form to receive help. The resources required to solve problems with old versions is just not cost-effective. That's why a new version was put out!

I stand by my siggy - there IS no such thing as a stupid question (except possibly by husbands) and I did not take your question as stupid.
