If you are having any problems signing in or downloading the patterns try the below procedure if you are using Norton.

Right click on the <Norton> icon
Left click on <Disable Norton Internet Securtiy>

Now try to sign in and click on any of the Patternsonline.com options.

I do not recommend disabling any security in general. For a quick test, fine, but it is dangerous to do it other than that, especially when what you are trying to do is download a file.

Norton has a very bad reputation now of grabbing hold of systems and not letting them operate. I have one friend who had to completely reformat her hard drive to get Norton off of it after it had expired. It locked her up tight.

I continue to use Norton Utilities (such as Win Doctor and Norton Protected Recycle Bin but I do not use Norton Anti-Virus or Norton Personal Firewall). I use AVG 7.5 and ZoneAlarm (both free).

Diane is completely right about Norton. It tends to dominate systems and hinder legitimate operations. Norton Antivirus in particular, has a reputation for not detecting many viruses.

AVG which is free, detects a lot more potential threats, fully protects your system and does not hinder legitimate operations.

Disabling any security package, gives hackers an open door to your computer and the data it contains. Definitely not recommended.

Disabling the Norton Internet Security does not disable the Outbreak,Personal firewall, Intrusion Detection (soneone trying to hack into your computer,) Norton Anti-virus, Spyware and Adware, Privacy Control or Parental Control. They do operate seperately. I still have the anti-virus enabled and the fire wall, which alerts me if anyone should try to hack in. If you should forget to enable it again, it automatically enables when your restart your computer,
The option for Norton Internet Security is a temporary disable.which you set for 5 min, 30 min. 1 hour, 4 hours or Until System Restarts. If you should forget to enable it again, it will automatically be enabled when you restart your computer.

I used to use the AVG freebie, and did not like it that much because they don't provide the definitions (updates) when they first come out. It can take them days before you get it. I haven't tried the paid version, for which you do get the definitions when they first come out. The freebie is fine, if you don't need the extra protection but I have more than 700 people who send E-mails to me regularily. The Freebie AVG wasn't worth it to me

I'm not knocking the freebie version, I'm just saying I have used it for many years but it just doesn't do what I need today. Perhaps the paid version would, and I will change to it in a few months when my Norton expires. There is a right way and several wrong ways to uninstall any program. If you do it wrong, you don't get all of the files, and you can also delete files that other programs on your computer is using, and if you delete those, it will render your other programs useless and you will have to uninstall each of them, and then re-install them, and includes downloading all of the updates too. It can be very time consuming, and if you don't know what other programs may be using those files, you have a big surprise when you want to use them the next time.

NEVER DELETE ANY FILE WHEN YOU GET THE MESSAGE THAT ANOTHER PROGRAM MAY OR MAY NOT BE USING THAT FILE. ALWAYS CLICK <NO TO ALL> It does no harm to leave those files on your computer even if no other program is using them. But if you delete it you can mess up other programs.

For anyone wanting to enhance their security even further, especially when they receive a high quantity of emails, consideration should be given to programs like Mailwasher.

These allow you to look at your email on the server, BEFORE you download it onto your computer. It also dramatically reduces junk mail, as you can 'bounce' it back to the sender unopened, with a 'user unknown' message. Dramatically reduced my junk mail!

You can find this and many other security programs on www.download.com which is part of the reputable CNET group. Well worth taking a look. Only ever download programs from reputable sites though, as some software contains malicious elements, that can invade your privacy and compromise your security. You can never be too safe when using the Internet.
