I would like to know how to use the floss properties in PCStitch Pro. I have several patterns in which I would like to use one, two and three strands of floss in the same design, and I can't find much information in the help screens on how to set this up. Any suggestions?

I just did a little studying and checking on it. Since you can have the same color listed multiple times in your current pattern's palette, just choose a distinctly different symbol for each one. You can define a different property, including strands for each instance (symbol). I'm not sure how it will print but you can define it that way.

That should give you what you need. If you need one color consistently in 3 strands, for example. Just define that one color/symbol combination that way. If another color needs 2 strands in some places and only 1 in another, you can do as I mentioned earlier.

You can even have the symbols from different TTfonts. I've not tried that either.

I have done just that -- different symbols for the different numbers of strands for the same colour. However, there is no indication on the information sheet that this is the case. The thread summary likewise does not indicate the number of strands used.Is there some way to include this information in the instructions?

I think some one asked a question like this before and Troy indicated they would try to include the strand info in the print. You can use a symbol you can mark in the instructions (such as 'X' for color 3799 needing 3 strands and '0' for 3799 needing 2 strands) and then list the information in the instructions.

That will work until we do get the strand info in the print legend.

I also noticed that when I select a strand number other than the default in floss properties, and then save my pattern, when I open the pattern again, all the changes have returned to the default settings. They don't seem to have been saved. Something for the programmer to chew over?
Regardless of these little annoyances, I still think the new version is great.

I see the problem with the strands not saving. We will get this into the next maintenance update.

Strand Issues:

Hello Everyone. This is Troy...

I wanted to let you all know that the strand issues mentioned in this post have been resolved. We fixed a bug that was keeping the strand changes from being saved in the pattern file, and we also added the Strand Count information to the printed information sheet.

I went ahead and made the strand count optional, like other fields in the legend. You can choose to include it or not from both your system options and from the print/preview form.

The main part of the legend will display the strand count defined for full stitches. If, for that same palette entry, you have defined a different strand setting for another stitch type, that stitch type will be in the call-out section of the legend showing the strand setting.. For example: If the first color in your legend is setup to use 3 strands for full stitches, and 2 strands for petite stitches, the legend will display [3] in the main section, and the floss will also be in the call-out section showing [2] for petite stitches...

I really like the way this works.. It will be available in the next maintenance release which is scheduled to be posted on Friday, May 12th....

Sincerely,

Troy
