I entered my 378 colors to make a Palette. I want to use 30 colors for my picture. I loaded my palette to a picture I want. The palette for the picture has colors that are not in my palette I created. Why?

The only thing I can suggest is 378 colors in a palette is a lot of colors. You may have entered some you didn't intend to use. You need to be sure you save the palette and then load it when you start up again unless you set it as the DEFAULT palette. It should load automatically if it is the default.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I tried to make my palette default twice still same problem. Could you be more specific on how to make it default.

Once a palette has been defined (floss colors chosen). You can SAVE the palette and load it again using the Palette Tools. Click on "Tools" in the menu and then under "Palette Tools", you can select to save it. Below that option is another option to make the current palette the default.

Once this is done, every time you open PCStitch for a new pattern, those colors will be shown as the palette at the bottom in the Floss Palette Panel. Patterns already created will show their own palettes, not the default but an empty pattern will show the default palette.

Changed the name of the picture I wanted to use on my computer. Imported it into pcstich. Adjusted it and said okay. The same thread numbers came up as when I started this a week ago. I replaced all the original palette numbers with my numbers after that added the rest of my thread numbers I wanted to use. Saved the palette. Then made it the default palette. Changed the name of the picture again. Imported it into pcstich. Made the adjustments I wanted said okay. The palette that was created after saying okay was the same as the original picture I started with a week ago. Like I didn't make any of the changes at all.

On import, I don't think it uses the default palette. You have to specify the exact palette to use.

I don't use import much but that's what I think is the situation.

So trying to load palette and get. You cannot load a new palette unless there are no stitches set in the active pattern. How do you get a picture to the palette without importing it?

OK, I did some playing around. It can be done!

First, define your palette and save it. Don't worry about it being the default if you're doing an import conversion from an image to a pattern.

Then, start the import and point to the image to be imported.

The key is the next part: Scroll the tabs below the image and click on "Floss". Then click on the dot beside "Map colors to Floss Palette". That activates the box beside that where you point to the .fls file that has the palette that you have defined.

Those colors will now be used!

You can change them for an individual pattern but to change the symbol for the entire palette, you will have to save it again.

I'm adding symbols to a pattern. When I first started I could see more than one symbols page. Some times I would click on a symbol and the other symbol page would come up. When I hit another symbol it goes back to symbols 3. In order for me to add all my colors I need more than one symbol page. I'm using pcstitch 11 updated to the newest software.

Thanks for your patients

In the Symbols palette, there is a drop down menu for the symbol fonts. The default is PCStitch Symbols 3. There are two others and you can use any Windows font as well. The drop-down menu brings up the entire list from the Windows Font folder and you select what you want.

When you select a color, it shows the font page for what has been chosen for that color. If you use a different font for another color, what you see on the symbols palette will change to match as well as new colors will revert to the default page.

You can have as many fonts used as colors used but it can get a bit confusing switching back and forth!
