Is there any way to highlight more than one colour at a time? As it is, I can only get a single colour to highlight, and when I select another colour in my palette, that new colour becomes highlighted, and the previous colour gets moved to the background.

I am sorry but multiple highlights are not supported at this time. This is something you can request in that thread for features you would like added.
