I'd like to add a (custom) specialty stitch to my pattern. It will take up four squares (two squares to a side). For ease of reading the pattern, I'd like to use ONE large symbol across these four squares. Is this possible?

I do not think that is possible. Specialty stitches show the stitch, not a symbol. Symbols are ONE stitch in size.

Hmm, the problem is that the stitch is to be worked in two different colors. I want the chart to print in black-and-white. Do you have any other ideas? The only other thing I can think of is to draw the stitches with backstitching, then use different backstitch styles to indicate the color.

Or you could use different color backstitches. If you want to use the stitch multiple places, you can define it one place and put copies of it elsewhere.
