Hello, I'm new to PCStitch Pro, but I am trying to figure out if there is a way to do the following and currently I can't see one (in which case can I recommend it as a feature in the future?)
Supposing you create a chart, and put in backstitching using the auto backstitch feature. You save the chart, come back to it later, and decide you want to change something in the pattern which will mean re-doing all the back stitching. Is there a way to undo ALL backstitching in one go without undoing any of the other stitches (assuming you can't just 'undo' an edit, for the above reasons)? I'm having to change every single pixel of backstitching one by one, and would love a much quicker way to restart again with all back stitching, by removing or changing the selected stitch type.
If this feature doesn't currently exist, this suggestion could also be expanded to remove all current stitch types for other types of stitches as well?
Thanks! |

Any stitching, whether backstitching or otherwise can only be "undone" within the same edit session. If you close and re-open the design, it has no "history" to undo.
auto-backstitch makes small backstitches along the line of what you have defined. When I do backstitches, (knowing it will affect the estimate of usage), I make them as long as possible each time. If I have a line 30 stitches long, rather than make 30 little backstitches (which is how I would stitch it), I make one LONG backstitch 30 stitches long. Those are easier to remove.
If all your backstitches are of a single color, that is not used otherwise (or at least not much), at least in a defined area, you can mark the area and use the "remove color" in that area. That's one way to remove them.
The individual way is to set the stitch to backstitch and then remove each one. It's not pixel by pixel but it is stitch by stitch and if auto-backstitch is used, it is a bit of work.

Thanks for replying, Dragonlair...
I have to say I am a little surprised that using the auto-backstitch results in small stitches for the whole area, rather than using long stitches over areas that could be one longer line. Doesn't this kind of make the auto-backstitch a bit pointless if it may result in unnecessary lengths of thread in usage from all small stitches, as well in potentially having to undo small individual stitches rather than longer ones?
That aside, thank you for your tips and help... I shall certainly bear those in mind with my work... but if I could make a recommendation for a future update that it's possible to remove all backstitching, and/or for backstitching to also include long stitches where appropriate, then I should like to :)
The problem with removing a certain colour, that you may have used for backstitching however is that you might also end up removing full, half, three quarter etc cross stitching that you might have done with that same colour, and for me that certainly wasn't a viable option - it would result in even more work, sadly.
Thanks again though! :)

I believe the reason for the small - one-stitch length auto-backstitching is it is more "realistic". It matches how you would actually stitch the area and makes the estimates for floss usage more accurate.
However, that is exactly the reason I DON'T use it personally. It not only makes it more difficult if you change your mind, it makes the files bigger. That is a purely personal preference in the way I use the product.
