Hi all, after years of not doing any cross stitch i would like to get back into it. I am looking at purchasing PC Stitch but still that little bit unsure as after reading the forums some people are having problems with STandard 9. If anyone has time can you please advise as to your experience and if you think i will use it.I have had a play with the demo but would like to know how it prints etc, but cannot do this till i purchase, just my husband thinks i will use it once and never again. Any feedback appreciated. Regards Janet |

You don't say what operating system you are using and that does play a factor. PCStitch 9 (both Pro and Standard) have the same basic features since it is a common code base. The printer feature is the same for both.
I have used PCStitch from 7 on (7, Pro 8, Pro 9 and Standard 9) and except for a bit of a hiccup with the Pattern Libraries with Vista and Pro 8, I have had no problems with any of them.
The printing is flexible with many feature options and gives extremely clear printing. I believe it is about the best printouts I have seen. Not only can you use it for your own patterns, you can use it for thousands of free and paid patterns available on the Internet in the PCStitch format. It accepts at least as far back as 5 and maybe before that.
My personal opinion is this product is the best. At least for me, it fits my way of working and I find it extremely easy to use and to print.
Remember that there is always a preview option so you can determine if the printing will be what you want and you can adjust the parameters if they aren't.

Hi DIane, Thanks for the reply.
I am using a PC with XP, and so far am just playing around with it all. I used to have PC Stitch version 7 i think, but cannot find it anywhere.
My main machine is a mac and the printer is located on this machine, but i use Bonjour to print remotely through.
My other question after reading through the forums is i notice 112x140 pixels gives you approx an 8x10 pic, is there anyway to work out how many pixels per inch or stitches.
Once again thanks for your help and over the next few days when i have time, i will keep playing with the demo and then convince my hubby i need this program. Regards Janet |

If you're talking about importing an image, you need to decide up front what size the final project will be AND what count fabric it will be. That is how you determine the pixel size of the import. For the best quality import into a cross-stitch pattern, you should have 1 pixel = 1 stitch. Therefore if you want an 8 X 10 using 14 count, your pixel count will be about 112 X 140 pixels. If you want to use 18 count for the same size, the image needs to be about 144 X 180 pixels. See what I'm doing?
Your pixel count (as close as possible keeping the aspect ratio of the original photo) needs to be width times fabric-count X length times fabric-count. (8*14X10*14, 8*18X10*18).
You will still need to do some "tweaking" to get exactly what you want because the computer sees the image differently than you do and tweaking is needed to smooth edges, remove confetti stitches and add specialty stitches (fractionals, french Knots, backstitches ...)
