Hello. I am hoping someone can advise me on using the half cross stitch in patterns. I am working on an ambitious project with a planned finished size of 24 x 16 on 18 count aida. It will be 432 crosses wide by 288 crosses high. As you can imagine, the pattern is quite large - 18 printed pages; and the picture uses 200 colors. In preparing the pattern, I adjusted the sky to include half stitches. However, I was disappointed that the symbol/color chart did not differentiate which stitches would be half stitches and which would be whole stitches. And on the pattern itself, there are 3 slash lines over each square that should be a half stitch. The problem with that is it covers the symbol and I can't figure out what the symbol is. Is there anyway that I can adjust the pattern so I know what color symbol is for each square that has a half stitch without having to turn on the computer everytime I sit down to sew? Any help or advice will be sincerely appreciated. |

You do not specify if you are using Pro or Standard and that does affect the answer.
If you are using pro, you can define the same color multiple times with multiple symbols. You could use one symbol for full stitches and one for half stitches and just use the instructions to differentiate between the two.
For Standard, you would need two different colors and, again using the instructions, specify that color xxx is really color yyy using half cross stitches.
In both cases, your pattern would actually show full stitches. It is the instructions that you use to specify the half-stitches, rather than the pattern itself.

I am using the PC Stitch Pro. I see how I can divide the list of threads in the instructions. But the pattern still has 3 slash marks(///)through each of the half stitch boxes and it covers the symbols making them illegible. Is there any way around the slash marks? Thanks for the help. |

I'm not on the development team so I can't answer how to change the printing. What you can do is define the half as a full (with a different symbol) and in your instructions say to use half instead of full stitches.
I'm seeing some patterns by Debbie Cripps (pdfs) that say that right now!
