When I opened the PCStitch Symbols font in my Windows font file, it shows Arial-like symbols rather than the old PCStitch symbols. Is this what is causing the problem with older version patterns in the libraries? Is there any way to replace this font with the proper symbols?

No, your library problem is actually being caused by a bug in the software. We should have a fix posted sometime next week.
