The pixel dimensions should be very close to the stitch size you wish for the final product.

For example: If you want a design 8 X 10 inches on 14 count then you want your pixel size of 112 X 140.

It will look TINY but it gives the best conversions. You want to have 1 pixel = 1 stitch for the best conversion.

Thanks, I would have thought the more pixels the better.

Jess,

If you have more than one pixel / stitch the software has more difficulty deciding which pixel has the dominant color. It may or not be a shading issue and can actually confuse things. Also, you want to keep the number of colors as small as is reasonable to minimize the number of inevitable confetti stitches. I don't know about Standard, but with Pro you can limit (by percentage) how many of the colors can be used for the background. That also limits confetti stitches.
