I just purchased PCStitch Pro over the weekend. I immediately charted out a beautiful photo of a scene from Butchart Gardens in Victoria, B.C., Canada. PCStitch formatted my pattern and my color legend that I set for 100 colors for more resolution. But....the PCStitch legend did not tell me how many skeins of each floss color I would need to complete the project.

Does the program already have this capability and I just don't know how to enable it? Or, are your programmers planning this capability upgrade in a future enhancement? If so, will owners of the current PCStitch Pro edition receive this and all future upgrades?

Thank you! Shelley

Hi Shelley,

What you need to do is go to the TOOLS drop down menu. Then pick PALLET TOOLS Then FLOSS USAGE

It will bring up a pop up window that will tell you how many stitches are used of each color in the pattern and how many skeins you will need to do the project. I believe the program comes with the default set at 20% over estimate to be sure you have enough. But you can change that if you like in the preferences section.

But before you do, remember you must also take into consideration the usage of floss on the needle that never gets stitched in, like your under-run etc.

Hope this helps,
Mikki

To play and be happy is the work we should all be doing.

The minimum shown is .1 (10%) skein. Please take these estimates as just that ESTIMATES. They are not always accurate. I am doing one pattern right now that says to use 7 skeins of the main color. I am almost half way through and have used at least 5 skeins already.

I understand that .1 and .2 under Floss Usage basically means that it uses 10% of the skein. Anyway to calculate # of stitches = # of cm or inches? I have 11 colors ranging from 8 to 115 stitches which all read .10 skeins.

I'm trying to create sorta mini kits for my sorority sisters to make a particular cross stitch and wanted to pre-cut the amount of floss needed to complete it. But the Floss Usage Summary doesn't quite help in this endeavor.

Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thank you.

You could work it out yourself, knowing the number of strands used and the number of stitches. Each stitch is assumed to have 2 diagonals AND two straight stitches (back).

Each diagonal is sqrt(2 * (1/count)**2) (hypotenuse of right triangle - a**2 + b**2 = c**2 => c = sqrt (a**2 + b**2)
Each Straight is 1/count

For fabric of 14 count, each diagnonal is 0.10 inches and each straight is .007 inches. Therefore each stitch is 2*.107 = .214 inches. Add your "fudge" of say 25% (to be generous) and you allow up to .2675 inches of floss per stitch.

This is single ply - Work it out from there for percentages for a skein of 8 M or 8.7 yards of 6 ply.

I'm just playing with numbers. I don't want to do all the playing. I left the rest to you.
