Hi, I am new here, and have never posted on a message board before. I've looked through this one and am excited to participate! I have been cross stitching for about 4 years now and just recently purchased PCStitch Pro. I am not computer savvy but my 15 year old daughter is, and already she has converted several of my own pictures for me. I understand that if I were to use someone else's work and sell that piece of work as a pattern I would need to get permission from the artist. Does anyone know how to do this? I've seen some things on line about art licensing but the more I research the more confused I get. I'm thinking I can simply write the artist or the person or organization who holds the rights and ask permission? It probably isn't that simple, though. Does anyone have nay information on this?
Believe or not, but it is actually that simple. Just remember to confirm that asking the permission from the actual copyright holder (sometimes the copyright can be transferred to someone else than the actual artist). They either deny or accept, and if they accept they can set come clauses on the usage (of course, it is their intellectual property) of said piece.
