Hello everyone.
I have had the PC Stitch program for several years. I recently got a new Asus laptop and moved my old files onto and downloaded the PC Stitch program with no problems. I was able to open old pattern files and make new ones and print with no problems. Today, I was able to open the program and select files, but after that the program did not respond any further. I was able to create a new pattern file, but after saving it could not open it again after closing the program. I was able to successfully un-install the program using the Revo Uninstall Program....and then downloaded the program again. Again, I was able to open the program, select files, but when the file was clicked it still would not respond. I would back out using the laptop's end task function each time I tried. It did the same thing when I tried to access the files as an Administrator. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do to solve this problem? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I know you said you did a revo-uninstall and then reinstalled the program. However, did you reboot the PC in between the two actions? That does sometimes make a difference.

If that does not work, I suggest you email Mark at mmiller@pcstitch.com about the problem. Mark is the only one who can help.

I have never seen the problem but I have heard of it.

Good Luck,

Diane

Thank you for your reply. I have tried rebooting and uninstalling. Strangely, Mark was able to open a file I sent him, but I cannot open. I am also able to open some sample files, but not all of them. I will keep playing with it. The data seems to be there.... they just wont communicate.

Hello Diane,
To update you. I had my son came over this evening to look at my computer and see if he could figure out the problem. He works in software development for medical equipment. After checking all sorts of things, the final answer turned out to be the last Microsoft update on my computer. When my son uninstalled that update all of my files in PC Stitch ran fine. He reinstalled the update again just to be sure, and sure enough, the files would not open.
I asked him to reply to an email I received from Mark and share the various things he looked at in the process and the solution so he will be aware of the issue since other people may experience the problem.
Apparently it is not uncommon for this to happen to software and makers then have to fix the bugs so their programs will run with the Microsoft changes.
We will have to wait see if it happens again with the next update, but I was so happy to be able to access my projects again. :)

I'll believe it! I've had some odd things appear suddenly with no explanation to find out that Micro$oft has put in a patch ages back but not turned it on and then suddenly it gets turned on.

I remember when people actually had control on what was on their computer. That began to erode after Windows came out. My first software lost to windows was because the "config.sys" file was no longer allowed and I could not use the "files =" command to increase the number of files allowed to be open at a time. It sounds subtle but it was a start.

Now, we can delay but we can't even completely stop updates!

Merata,

Could you tell me the exact code of the Microsoft update that caused the issue? Also, did your son report the problem to Microsoft?
