I feel like I might be missing something really obvious here, but does anyone know how to do a backstitch font? I have a poem I want to make into a pattern, and I need to be able to do backstitch lettering to fit it into a reasonable size.

Check the stitched fonts available. You may need to do a true-type font rather than a stitched font to get the effect you need.

When I needed a backstitch font I just drew it out in the software with the backstitch function, but I needed something reasonable small and all the fonts (even the True Type ones) were too big or too muddled at smaller sizes. The first couple words take a minute but after that it gets really easy and you get exactly what you want.

You can do things like zoom in and make the squares larger which makes the backstitch corresponding smaller. Or you could go to the options and change how the backstitch is drawn. You define the width. If you want it smaller, then set that number lower.
