How do I come out of the "Select" mode?

Where are you? I have no idea where the select mode is. Often the "esc" key is used as a quit or exit if that might help.

Under "edit" then "select all"

OK, I understand what you mean now.

Simple -- just change the selection from he "arrow" that is used for this kind of action to one of the stitch types (like "X").

Look at the icons at the top of the screen. They can be moved around and you can choose which you want so it's difficult to say exactly what you want.

There is a group of icons for stitch selection. The first one is an arrow that is the "select" option. The next one to the right is an "X" that stands for "full cross-stitch". Others farther on are for half cross stitches, 3/4 stitches, 1/4 stitches and backstitches. Selecting any of them determines what kind of stitch you want to place in your pattern. Click on any of them and you are out of 'select' mode.

Hover over the icons and they tell you what they are. They resemble the stitches you want to make.

I GOT IT! Those icons weren't on my toolbar, i had to add them..geez I thought I was going crazy! lol Thank you so much for your help
