I am trying to use the tutorial on importing a graphic to convert to a chart. I can open and read it but the tutorial refers to a sample picture in the tutorial folder, "kids.bmp" that doesn't exist-the folder is empty. I imported my own picture, and made the import wizard window smaller so I can see the tutorial. However, I can't click back and forth between the wizard and the next step in the tutorial. It's essentially useless since I can't see what I should do next.
I am a new user and am becoming very frustrated-this is not a very intuitive program to use. I really, really, wish there were a downloadable PDF manual with user friendly (aka "dummies"), step by step instructions on using each feature. The online help I find very inconsistent in giving useful instructions -some entries are nothing more than a description of a feature, not a how-to, others are better on how to use. |

I did not have the same issue (the sample file is there, but I had to select All Files instead of using the default Files of Type Graphic - or whatever that was on the File Open Menu). However, the issue I have is while the File > Import dialog is open, with the preview of the kids, I cannot continue using the Tutorial without first closing the import dialog, going to next section of Tutorial, then importing again.
This means I cannot walk through processing a file as I walk through the tutorial; because each time I close the import dialog, I have to start all work over. If I save the tweaked file as a pattern, I can no longer do any processing I would have done during Import.
Would appreciate any hints that will help here.

Dave, That's a legitimate problem. It's quite common for the various software products to block some portions while a specific "dialog" is open. It's a problem in this case. I suggest you send an email to Mark about it. He may have some way around the problem.

On the other issue - there IS a PDF form of the entire manual available and it is installed with your software. There may be a link to it with your other shortcuts but if not, check the folder where the product is installed (Default location is C:\Program Files\PCStitch 10).

Yes, Modal vs Modeless. I know some about programming and figured that was it. The dialog thinks it needs completed before it lets the user do something else within the host/parent program.
Opening the tutorial using the HTML files in the tutorial directory works great! I can Alt+Tab between them or size the windows to see both at same time.

When I first purchased the program I was specifically told there was no separate/PDF version of the manual. I did find the one you refer to but it's the same as the online help which, again, I find not too helpful for starting from scratch newbies like myself who really need step-by-step lessons. But it's still better than nothing since I can now look at it all at once in a whole document.
