For Virtual PDF, I hope you UNINSTALLED, not just deleted it. There may be register settings and so forth that might cause a problem.
I suggest you try to uninstall and then re-install PrimoPDF. I have Vista and I've been using it for YEARS!
Remember you don't "call" PrimoPDF at all. When you want to print (anything, not just PCStitch), it should be available from a drop-down menu of printer selections.

Check with the site. They may have a support that will help you figure it out.

Note, fabric count and such are in the Pattern Properties. Make sure you are printing EVERYTHING you can.
Someone recommended PrimoPDF back before I had Vista and it worked so I just continued. So long as it works, I see no reason to change.

Notes are special little items that are like post-it notes IN the pattern itself. I'm not sure how those are printed. What you normally think of notes are part of the instructions. You fill in those and they will print.

When i click on the note icon, nothing happens. I thought this is where i can include the instructions, the name of the pattern etc. |

The Name of the pattern, size of grid and so forth are the "Pattern Properties". You have an option to set that when you click on a new file for complete manual creation or you can click on the "Pattern Properties" at any time. That is the icon that had the 3x3 red boxes with a piece of paper over the lower right corner - near or at the end of the Pattern Tools toolbar.
To set the instructions, click on the little white "thought bubble" with the exclamation point in it to the left of Pattern Properties.
If you click on the "note" icon it wants you to click anywhere on your pattern to add a "post-it" type note to the pattern. Maybe something like, "This part done in petite stitches". I've not used it much, if at all.
I just did a quick check (using print preview). If you use a note, the pushpin and yellow note will print where you have it set. The contents of that note will print on the instruction page just below any defined instructions.
