ok, this is prob a painfully obvious answer... but I've not seen it (yet)... so here goes:

When you use a pattern piece (lets say a knot from the nautical disc)... and you want to combine some parts of it, or take off a couple of stitches so you can lay them out... can you remove stitches from a pre-existing pattern piece?

You can't edit the pattern piece unless you merge the object with the background. After you merge it, you can't move it around any more as a single object.
