About 10 yrs ago I bought PCStitch 5.1. After two failed attempts at reproducing my in-laws wedding potrait to horrible results due to bad colour matches for their faces,I gave up.Now I would like to try it again but I am wondering if I should upgrade or just try to tweak the picture. This is probably the only time I will use the program as I don't cross stitch very often and this was purchased solely for this project. |

That version is extremely old. Version 7 has been out for almost 6 years and it has not been upgraded to 9 Standard. As that version is no longer supported at all, I would consider upgrading to the latest and greatest. You are bound to get better results in your attempts to import a photo. If you'll look around here, you'll see several hints at how to work towards better results.
Remember, though, creating a pattern from an image is not a one-shot deal. You will almost inevitably have to "tweak" and make changes.
