Posted - 01/22/2009 : 21:45:33 I recently came across a website that offered free patterns in PCStitch format. I'm working on making a bookmark for my little brother, and he likes firetrucks. I found a firetruck pattern on this site, and though it'd be easy to load it into the program and resize it. But when I went into the pattern properties and changed the size, it cut off most of the design. I'm a new user to the program, so it's completely possible that i'm not doing it the right way, lol.
Can anyone please tell me how to resize a pattern? For example - the dimensions of the pattern i'm using is 9 X 5 and I need it smaller to fit on a bookmark.
Thanks for your help!! |

Posted - 01/23/2009 : 10:21:23 If your fabric and your pattern are the same count - then the pattern size will be as listed. In that case, you either need to modify the pattern, find a new pattern or select smaller fabric instead of the 14 count you planned on using. That's the beauty of the hobby - lots of choices!

Posted - 01/23/2009 : 08:37:49 Yes, that makes sense. Duh on me (i'm still kinda new at this stuff) . So, I guess I need to find another pattern - because it's for 14 count and the bookmark i'm working with is also 14 count. Am I right? Thanks |

Posted - 01/23/2009 : 08:00:27 You don't need to change the pattern to change the size. Just use different materials! If you use a smaller size fabric (like 18 count as opposed to 14 count), your resulting stitched design is smaller! The pattern is the pattern. Showing a count size on it does not bind you to using it and the ONLY effect will be the final size.
If you change the number of stitches for a pattern and reduce it, you will cut off part of the pattern. No matter what count of fabric you use, you still need the same number of stitches. They'll just need to be smaller.
Changing the number of stitches does not "squeeze" the pattern into what's remaining. It does just what it says it does - cuts off the extra stitches. It's your job to see that you don't lose anything in the process.
