The pattern prints out with mauve and carnation(pink) for the boiler;beaver gray for the cupola(not too bad for green in the shade); and blues for the smoke stack. Why didn't it print out like the picture which shows christmas red boiler, black smoke stack and green cupola?

If the colour for the boiler in the pattern was 321 or something from the family then your printer is the one to blame. If the colour was not 321 or its like then it's your monitor.
Nothing prevents you to change the colours for stitching, just strike the colour in the key and write the new colour next to it (this is something we designers do all the time). The advantage of this method also is that you get to check the colours next to each other on the fabric you are going to use.
