I have been using PCStitch for a while and absolutely love it. I mostly use it to put difficult patterns in and print out in color to make it easier for me to stitch.
A lot of the designers are using different threads.....Weeks Dye Works, Sampler Threads, etc. Does anyone know if there is a way to add a new color group to the Floss Palette? Also, does anyone have a good conversion chart for any of these threads? I don't have a cross-stitch shop anywhere near where I live and really prefer to use DMC, I found two conversion charts for WDW to DMC and a lot of the conversions on the two lists didn't match.

Kay, remember that the software sees the colours differently than human eye and monitor settings vary between users so there will never be exact match (which is great excuse to have whole line of those flosses you use for designing), but you can try to make the match closer by adjusting the settings of your monitor.
Personally I am very pleased with how the colours display compared to the actual flosses (even I use laptop for designing).

The color chart can be a little confusing. The color on the screen a lot of times is nothing like the actual color . That throws me off as to what the pattern will look like. Is there a way for you to correct that problem? e.g. the 208-211 group is supposed to be a 'blue' type purple and yet it shows up on the screen as a 'pink' type purple. Does that make any sense?

Add extra as a percentage, not an absolute amount. If, as in my example, it worked out to be less than 2 yards (full 6 strands), one extra yard may be enough. If, as in the other example, it says .8 skeins, then I would definitely want more than 1 skein to be sure. The larger the amount, the larger "fudge factor", you should leave yourself. Having extra is not a problem, you can always use is somewhere. Having too little can be a problem, espcially if you end up with a different dye lot!

One advice: it's always good to have more floss than the software suggests. As an example I finished recently one model on 36 count with two strands of DMC: software's estimation was 0,8 skeins, but it took over one skein.

When it says .1 or .2 that is the amount of the skein. That is .1 or 10% of a skein. It is calculated by using the number of stitches, the count, and the number of strands. I think the minimum is .1. It is just an estimate to you should probably make sure you have more than that amount of the color just in case.
Remember that a skein of DMC is 8.7 yards of 6 strands or 52.2 total yards of thread. The total .2 would be 10.44 yards of thread. If you are doing 2 strands, it would be 5.22 yards of actual stitching. For the full 6 strand, divide that by 3 to get 1.74 yards. That would say you should probably have at least 3 36" lengths of 6 strands (one extra to be safe).
Does my example make it a bit more clear?
Remember that the amount needed is also dependent upon the distribution in the pattern. Stitches close together would take less than confetti stitches. Also the number of strands and the method you use makes a difference. If you use the loop method, you amount of usage will be a little less than if you didn't use that method.

Hi! I'm new to PCStitch and I just love it!! Love the challenge of learning something new. I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. When I pull up the floss usage report I'm not sure if I'm reading it right. When it says .2, .5, 1.4, ect. Does that mean- .2 2 strands of floss and 1.4 mean 1 skein plus 4 strands of floss?Thanks for the help! |

I am for the most part extremely happy with my PCStitch  , however, on the floss palette, it doesn't have the varigated or linen colors for DMC. They need to update it so that it has those colors along with those other new DMC 'Light Effects'. Then I would be completely satisfied! |

Do notice that even though there are conversion charts between floss X and Y if other one is hand-dyed the match nor result are never exactly the same as when using recommended flosses.
Have you considered online stores? That's how I get all my floss (hand-dyed and regular) because there aren't actual cross stitch stores around here (only online ones).

I don't know conversions that well but I do know that several sites are listed on the EMS Cross Stitch Board (www.cross-stitch-board.com).
As for having the floss palette, there is the Floss Editor. You can create your own. If you get any of these other manufacturers done, contact Mark about having them added to the product for the benefit of all users.
