I think that because this feature is one that is sold as being a feature of pcstitch and good tutorial would be great. I have found several sites that give a thumbnail tutorial or something to sell their product or software but nothing that really gets to the nitty gritty of designing a photo pattern. Every time I open my PcStitch software and see the lady with the great photo pattern I wonder where the tutorial is.

You can specify the number of colors to allow. That will reduce the confetti by a fair amount. You can also manually change some of the confetti to one of the other colors next to it.
I highly recommend frequent use of "View Pattern" when tweaking like this. You can see the changes quickly and undo if needed.

I have the same question as the original poster. I'm having trouble with a photo image of a person. I can do photo images of objects (like the pumpkin at the link), but when it comes to images of people, it's too overwhelming. Plus, I am also wanting to do this and keep my color palette down to maybe 20 colors at the most. Is this even possible? |

You may find editing your image first before you import in PCStitch helps.

That's what I'm trying to figure out too. Tempest recomends building your own floss palette for each image. I haven't tried that yet but it sounds promising. I'm still trying to find a good recipe for optimizing images for importing. Since you have PSP and I use that too (version 10 but I've worked with all versions from5 to 10) I wondering if converting the image in PSP to a GIF using the default Windows palette would work. That's still on my "to do" list but if you try it I'd love to know how it worked. |

Hello,
Yes I am aware of the import feature and how it works. But theres more to it than that. Yes I would really like to know what really works for getting rid of the random stitchs and odd colors that are present even when you tweak the pic for the pattern. The question is how can I prepare the image before I import it to eliminate all of the hand work or at least minemize it. What are the steps. I use psp7 to edit images. I would appreciate any information in that direction.

PCStitch Pro has a tutorial that walks you through the steps of importing a picture to create a pattern. I would imagine that tutorial is also in the PCStitch Standard help file. Or are you looking for something in greater detail?
I've been doing some photo importing but I haven't done many. Still, if you have any questions or want some advice I'm sure we can figure all this out. |
