When I resave a pattern, why do I get a .bpt file as well as a .pat file in my pattern folder?

The .bpt file is just a rename of your older file. It is a backup file. Everytime you save a file (after the first time), the original is renamed to .bpt and a new .pat file is created. Bpt files are not removed automatically. When you complete a pattern, you have to delete them yourself.
