Hello Marcella!

As I told you I'm satisfied with PC Stitch. It converts the pics really well into charts. But as we all told you, it takes a lot of adjusting to get a stitchable chart. Once you've understood how the software works, then it is easy to work with.
And by the way the adjusting is very necessary because of the copyright. Think about it, if it would be so easy to convert a pic like a finger snip, do you really think there would be a designer publishing her/his work any longer???
Just my two cents.

Sabine

So very true Sabine. I guess when you do not look outside of what you are doing you do not see the far reaching consequence. When I am creating I do not think of the world outside of my space. Art for art sake I like to create my own notand not leach other peoples designs so the thought never entered my mind. It sounds like a challange I think that I shall go ahead and purchase the program. Cheers for now. Mars [quote]Originally posted by sqaw865

Thankyou everyone for your responses. Sabine you have been very helpful in defining exactly what was going through my mind.
Now if any one is able to just let me know how content they have been with their end product of the photo imagine. I understand that it won't look like a photo. But how far from reality is the image.

I frequently use this feature, but it takes a LOT of adjusting to get perfect. The main thing is getting the pattern to be the size you want. Once you learn to do that, it gets MUCH easier.

Hello Marcella!

I'm working with PC Stitch Standard and I'm using the import feature quite often. It works very well but if you think you've only got to scan a pic and run it through the program and then it's ready to stitch I must disappoint you. You have to do a lot of work after that to get a stitchable chart. You have to reduce colors, merge or replace them because often the colors in the program don't respond to reality. That means they are looking different on the screen. Not long ago I've run a flower's pic through my PC Stitch with round about 50 colors. I've reduced them to 15 at the end. Despite I had to put the original skeins onto my desk and to replace three of them. And by the way, it doesn't matter which program you are using here. They are all working the same way. A cross stitch program sees the colors in a picture in another way than a human eye. A photo is a thing made of lots of pixels. Everyone of them is in a different color. You don't recognize them but the computer software does. So if you run a photo with the import feature through a cross stitch software don't expect a ready to stitch chart. Expect it only, if you like to stitch projects with lots of colors and confetti stitches.
I didn't want to discourage you. As I said, I'm working with PC Stitch Standard and I'm satisfied with it. But every user has to be realistic about what a cross stitch software can resp. can't do.

Hi dragonlair, yes that is what I was questioning. It all looks too good to be true. I really would like to know if the photo realism works as well as the media makes it look.

Mars,

Are you referring to the "Import" feature? Both Standard and Pro have that feature. I have not experimented that much with it but I have tried and it does import an image or photo with you specifying the resolution, number of colors, etc.

Is that what you wanted?
