You read it right. I can't open the files I did before update which means I have to downgrade for time being back to the pre-update version as I really need to be able to use those designs. 
Anyway, the error I get is PCStitch encountered error 104 opening the pattern file.
ETA: Ok, definition. I can open them if I open them trough the software, but if I try to open them from folder I get the error. (Good thing is that now I don't need to downgrade.)

I'll add this to the list of things to look at. We should be able to come up with something that works for both pieces of software.

That is a tricky situation. I know that if you open Standard, it steals the extension from Pro. I normally do an "add/remove" to Pro and just get it started (and then say no to removal) to force it to do a maintenance fix and take the extension back. There are other ways to force the extension back but I KNOW this one works.
I try to avoid opening standard unless I am trying to check something very special (usually to answer a question here). I also don't like standard's insistence on having "My Cross-Stitch Patterns" in "My Documents". Pro puts it their on initial installation but doesn't put it back if you deletete it.
Mark, is there any way to prevent 7 from stealing the extension? Maybe have each version have an option for control that we can turn OFF for Standard.

Just an update to curious souls: my (B.Eng.) sister figured out it last night. The problem was that Windows tried to open Pro files with regular PCStitch, even I had show it which program it should use to open *.pats
Fortunately there is another way to change the application used to open certain file type. Everything is fine now, and Mark won't lose his night sleep, because of this problem, anymore.

That, but... now it happened with new pattern too. 
I'll email you pre-update and post-update files with description of the problem.

Are y ou saying that if you double click a .PAT file in Windows Explorer it won't open, but it will if you use the Open command from the File menu in PCStitch Pro? I tried that here, and it seems to work correctly.
Can you email me a pattern that you have problems opening to mmiller@pcstitch.com so that I can try it with the same pattern?
