9 Pro should work fine with Windows 7.

Is Pro 9 not compatible with Windows 7? I really don't want to have to pay for yet another upgrade.

As of version 10, there will no longer be Pro and Standard versions. The 10 software includes all of the features from Pro 9 and builds on that base.

Eventually, each version is designed to replace the previous version. However, there has been no date reported for the dropping of support of PCStitch 9. It just won't be upgraded unless something very very unusual happens.

Similarly, previous versions (8, 7, 6 ...) are "legacy" products that are not actively upgraded.
