Hi

Is there any way to keep chosen symbols on a pattern or section of a pattern when it is copied to a library or a new pattern?
I know I could save the palette as default so maybe that would work, but I don't really want to do that; I'm happy with the current palette default setting. I have already changed the default symbols font to the one I use most.

I have a large design of eight separate elements which I want to chart individually, but retain the symbols as the patterns would be part of a set.

I'd be grateful for any ideas
Thanks

That's a very good point.
Thanks again.

Actually, it makes complete sense when you think about it. Library motifs are small items to fit into your existing pattern. It is extremely possible to use a motif that contains the exact same colors that you currently have defined for your pattern. If they had their own symbols, then you might have a conflict or multiple symbols for the same color. Either way is not nice. By making them use existing or create symbols if needed, this is avoided.

That makes sense, Diane - thank you for finding it out for me. I'll create separate patts. as you suggest.

Apparently, pattern motifs in the libraries are saved without symbols, just as colors and "create" symbols when they are loaded. At least this seems to be true for the built-in libraries.

When symbols are created, they are created from the start of the palette and work sequentially through the palette.

It may be that the only way to create your 8 parts and keep them as the same symbols is to create them as 8 different PATTERNS, not library motifs. Patterns do have the symbols saved with the pattern.

Yes, so did I - it wasn't until I tried loading a saved element from the library that I realised the symbols were different from the original, even though the colour blocks were the same. I tried saving it to the library as a pattern in symbols to see if that worked, but it showed as colour blocks. It's not a major problem - I was just interested to see if I have missed something!!

I thought the symbol was saved as part of the pattern so it should work. I've not tried this before.
