When I do a print preview, the pictures come up black and unclear. There is no colored full picture of the design. I wanted a simple graph black and white picture as well as a colored graph picture to make up PDF files.

A print preview is simply a preview of what will actually be printed. That includes grid, symbols, color ... If you compress a large pattern into a single page, you will simple see a blurred grid.

To get a picture of the "completed" pattern, you need to export to a JPG the pattern as shown in one of the stitch appearing formats and then merge that with a PDF that would be the "print" of the pattern.

Merging a JPG and a PDF requires additional software. I do not know exactly how that it does require an extra step and I know of no free software for this purpose.
