Hi everyone, I'm using Windows 7 and I have both PC Stitch Pro and Photoshop Essentials 8. Whenever I download a pattern file for Photoshop Essentials (.pat) It downloads as a PC stitch file (also .pat) once this happens the pattern can't be opened by any program. Has anyone else had this problem or knows of a fix?

The problem is a conflict over the "owner" of the .pat extension. A similar conflict occurs with PatternViewer and Pattern Maker. Only one application can "own" an extension. The others can be allowed with "open with". It is usually the LAST application installed that has the ownership. If you want Photoshop to "own" the extension, you should set it as the default by a right-click and select "open With" and use the chose program option. There's a check-mark box to do it for all such files. If you do that, then any PCStitch file must use the right-click and open with and select PCStitch. The icon for the files will show the Photoshop icon.

If you want PCStitch to "own" the icon, you have to do the same trick but use PCStitch instead of Photoshop. Note - I often have trouble and have to do it several times to have PCStitch own the file association to get the icon right. I never have figure it out. ONLY PCStitch ever has the problem.
