I get an error code 1 when I try to open some patterns. Does anyone else have the same problem? I am using version 6.

Version 6 is very old and is no longer actively supported. Version 7 is the currently supported Standard version and 9 is the Pro version. I suspect the files you are receiving errors trying to load require Version 7 or better. There aren't that many free ones or downloadable ones that are Pro - at least I'm not aware of any.
