The palettes don't have symbols by themselves. It is by selecting the palette from the drop down menu as the one to use can you set symbols. Then it should be like any new pattern, select a color from the active palette, select a symbol for that pattern. In fact - with Pro (8 or 9), a default symbol is selected for you when you select the color.

Remember that no color has a symbol until it is selected for a particular pattern.

Can you tell me why I can't get symbols with my new pallette?
trikerbob Posted - 01/18/2009 : 09:03:58
I found it!!!!! Got all my colors added. Went in and imported a picture, Set the floss pattern, sized it and went to print preview and there is nothing but the grids showing up. No pattern. I went back in and tried to put symbols in the floss pallette but it wont let me do that.

In the same folder where Pro and/or Standard is located, there should be a Floss Editor.Exe. If you are not showing the file types, you will not see the ".exe". The icon to the left looks like 3 colored pencils. In my case it is in: C:\Program Files\Aa-Hobbies\PCStitch 7 and C:\Program Files\Aa-Hobbies\PCStitch Pro.

Also, in the Start Menu, wherever you have the group that is installed with the program, there is your PCStitch shortcut AND a Floss Editor shortcut.

I can't find the floss editor anywhere.

The Floss editor is a separate program that comes with all registered versions of PCStitch. Check the shortcuts, you should be able to find it.

Where do I find the floss editor?

Bob,

You might try to use the Floss Editor and create a new palette with all the colors you need. If you select that, you should have no problems with setting symbols.

Hi Diane, I have entered a MCG Floss pallette that I was given but it is only 35 colors and I need to add 15 more. How do I go about adding colors to the pallette? I tried the custom adding but it adds the color but wont allow me to assign asymbol for the color

Thanks

Since latch hook yarn is of a standard length (with a second standard length for rya yarn), just multiply the number of stitches by that length (3 or 3.5 inches, I believe). That is much more accurate than depending on the "estimate" for cross stitches. The floss usage chart does give the number of stitches.

I know the size of the pattern is the same. But the number of pieces of yarn per inch is not. How do I determine the colors per inch since the count will not go below 8 per inch?
Dragonlair Posted - 01/08/2009 : 17:57:10
When you create a design for other than cross stitch - ignore the stitches/inch! That is just a convention. You can USE the exact same pattern for 18 count, 14 count, 11 count, even 40 count. The ONLY difference is the size. Call it whatever you want - just make sure the number of "stitches" is correct. The count has absolutely no effect on the pattern itself!

In Latchhook, there is 3.75 stitches per inch versus 8 or 10 stitches per inch the way PCS is set up.

The program calls for 504 X 164 stitches. How do I make convert it to change it to the correct stitches so the correct amount of colors will come out right?

If you start out with the right stitches per inch you should end up with the right number of "knots" you require and sizes.

I do crochet with my PCS, and other than I want the rulers in reverse, its exactly the same kind of deal.
