I wasn't sure where to put this thread so if I made the wrong choice, feel free to move it!

I got to thinking about the different versions of PCStitch.

I know that version 8 is called PCStitch Pro.
I know that version 7 is now called PCStitch Standard.

Is version 6 what is called PCStitch Lite?

I got 7 in the summer of '04 and 8 when it was first released. I got Lite when I got the CDs for the pattern pieces. Each CD insisted on installing PCStitch Lite. Only one (I think) recognized it was already there and didn't re-do the install.

If 6 is Lite, then what happens to the earlier versions? Would they be "anorexic"?

One more question, when was PCStitch first released? (I'm assuming it was version 1.0)

I know, these are trivial questions but we can't ALWYAS worry about the big picture. Our minds have to relax with trivial things occasionally!

Thanks for the answers. I was just curious. Based on some questions on the EMS board the other day, version 4 must have been quite a ways back, too. That user upgraded to the viewer Pro and was so happy, she licensed it!

What your history lesson doesn't say is what is apparant to most of us. PCStitch seems to be the most widely used of the many similar programs. You see more "freebies" on the web using that format than any of the others.

ok. Here is a little history ...

PCStitch version 1 was released in 1989. It was a DOS based program (Windows wasn't even around yet).

PCStich has undergone many revisions until it became the Version 7 or Standard product that we sell today.

PCStitch Pro was originally planned to be just version 8 in the product line. We changed our strategy for a couple of reasons. One is that PCStitch Pro takes a lot more hardware resources to run acceptably. We didn't want to discontinue the verison 7 line so that we would still have a solution for people with older PC's. Another is that with more features comes more complexity. We have always wanted to cater to the inexperienced computer user as much as possible, so this was another reason to keep the easier to use version 7 around.

PCStitch Lite is sort of an orphan. It is really just a scaled down version of PCStitch (there are lite versions of 6 and 7). The point of PCStitch lite was to make the Pattern Pieces usable as stand alone products without giving away all of the features of PCStitch. Some of the Pattern Pieces have the 6 software and some have the 7, it just depends on how recently the CD's were mastered.

So much for the history lesson. Any questions ...?
