Posted - 06/23/2012 : 07:48:04 Is there a way of converting my patterns to a format that can be read by Kindle so that I do not have to print my patterns? I converted my wanted pattern to pdf format and sent it to my Kindle. Completely unreadable! This was just a black and white formatted pattern as I'm fairly aware of the limitations of the kindle (early) readability. Any suggestions?

PrimoPdf is a free virtual printer that works with any application, including Firefox!
Office (at least 2007 and above) has PDF output features as part of the product so an external virtual printer is not needed.
I have the basic kindle. That small screen (6" diagonal) is just too small (and does not support color) to read any reasonable size PDF "page" easily. It's just a pain.
PDFs and kindle just are not a good fit. A Kindle Fire is not a true kindle. It's a tablet with a kindle reading app built in!

Posted - 10/10/2012 : 17:19:14 I don't have a Kindle, so can't help there, but I can print a pattern to a pdf using the ordinary printing options (symbols, color, one-page or many, etc). I have a "printer" called PDF995, which will print any output into a read-only pdf. It's a free download and works with all MS Office programs.
Hope this helps. |

Posted - 09/08/2012 : 01:58:18 Hi Sukie We've been looking into converting our charts to be read on Kindle and other devices.
Converting to pdf isn't the answer - though all devices can read pdfs.
It seems the main problem is the way data is streamed - if you have a line of text from a book, and you zoom in, the text just 'flows' onto the next line.
If you have a table (which is more or less what a chart is) that can't happen as it is stored as a solid block; it can't just 'flow' onto the next line. So zooming in is not really possible.
We have come up with a solution which suits us, but might not suit your patterns. You really need to experiment!
Hope that helps. Daisy

Posted - 06/23/2012 : 10:07:30 The only suggestion is to use PDF. Kindle can read PDF files. One other possible idea although I cannot vouch for it's success is to use something like Calibre to convert the PDF to a mobi file and Kindle can read mobi files.
The paging may be off and Calibre says that pdf conversions are the least successful.
