Say I have three flowers in my chart that are red, but I want to change one of them to yellow and one of them to pink. I know how to replace one color with another in the floss palette, but I don't want all the flowers in the chart to change to yellow, only one of them. And I want the third flower to change to pink. I had asked this question once before and was told to draw a box around the first flower I want to change, R click it, then click Replace with (new color #). But, when I R click, I don't get the option to "Replace with", I only get cut, copy, erase, flip, rotate, and a couple of other things, but not "Replace With". What am I doing wrong? Can someone help me? TIA |

OK, I'll try a step by step using a sample pattern I have.
I want to change color 893 in one area to another color.
1 - Mark off the selected area
2 - Select 209 from the Available Color palette (just a simple left click with nothing else)
3 - Right Click on color 893 and select Replace with 209 > Selected area.
I see the color change but not the symbol until I shut down the selected area.
When I stop the selected area, the color stays purple and the symbol changes to the new symbol created which now shows 140 stitches.
Make sure you move the mouse and click anywhere. I suggest outside the window of the selected area. You SHOULD see the color and symbol change.

Also, when I point to the new color #in the Floss Palette, it shows that 0 stitches are that color.

I'm sorry, but it's still not working for me. Here's what I'm doing, step by step:
Highlight the area I want to change with the Selection Tool
It shows that that section is already color #413
R click the new color in the Floss Palette, color #319
I choose/click Replace with DMC 319 (now it's showing the right color #, unlike yesterday) For the Selected Area
The old color, #413, is still showing in that area of the pattern. Even when I save the pattern, close it, and reopen it, it's still the old color there.

If the color you want to use is already in use, click on it. Don't do anything else, just click on it to select it. THEN, go to the color you want it to replace and right-click to get the replace option.
If the color is not already in the palette, go to the "Available Colors" palette and do the same thing -- find the color you want to use and click on it. Don't do anything else. Then select the color you want to be replaced in the selected area in the floss palette and right click on it. That should give you the right "replace with" option.

AHA! I get it! Except, when I R click the new color in the Palette (DMC 319), it asks if I want to replace or blend the area with DMC 666. I had 666 in the Floss Palette, hadn't used it yet, so I removed it. But R clicking on 319 still asks if I want to replace or blend with DMC 666. What am I doing to this????

I think I see the confusion. You right-click on the color IN THE PALETTE at the bottom, not within the stitching area. That's where you get the blend and replace options.

Thank you, Diane. But it still doesn't work for me. :-( When I do steps 1 and 2 and then R click the color I don't want, the choices are cut, copy, erase, rotate, flip, make pattern object, save as specialty stitch, save to library, and close pop-up. But still no "replace" option. Am I a dork or what? |

OK, I was working from memory. I've been using PCStitch since version 7 (around 2004) and I've done the operation.
The steps you need in version 11 is:
1 - Choose a color from the list of colors. Just click on it - don't do any of the operations at the bottom.
2 - Use the "Selection tool" (arrow) and mark the area desired.
3 - Right-click on the color you want to change to the color you selected earlier. Move the mouse to the right to select the options for the "Replace" operation you see in the list. It notes what color will be used instead. The options are for the entire pattern or the selected area only.
4 - It seems to create a new symbol for the replacement but when you change or stop the selection area, it shows the old symbol and the new symbol shows 0 stitches. Just delete the extra symbol. You can go through later and remove all unused entries with the palette tools.

Thank you, Diane. But when I drag a box around the thing I want to change I don't get a change operation called "replace with". What else should I be doing? |

Use the Arrow pointer and drag a box around the flower you want to change. Then do your change operation. It will ask you if you want to change ALL of that color or just within the selected area.
