If I wanted to reverse a pattern, make it face the other direction, is there a way to make a mirror image of the chart once you have created it? Or do you just have to reverse the picture before you import it, basically start from scratch?

And is there a quick way to save just the chart?

Thanks for your help.

morlaine,

This is a bit off topic so I'm going to post elsewhere some hints that might help you.

Thanks for that info about PrimoPDF. I was thinking about getting a new laptop as this one is about 5 years old, that's like 100 in computer years. :-) I won't be installing Primo on the new one. I find stuff all the time that I never wanted and have no idea what initiated the installation. A constant aggravation.

As always thanks for your help and any suggestions you can provide.

Note -- if you already have PrimoPDF, you're probably fine. The problem comes with installing it. I had it and was using it fine on my current machine. It was slow, but it seemed to work. I tried to install it on my new laptop and ran into a buzz-saw of problems. It tried to install other things that I did not specify and as I was trying to remove them, it was trying to install more things. I'm still getting reports from Malwarebytes of some registry entries that even Revo Uninstaller Pro missed in the mess! Some products must have been uninstalled/reinstalled/uninstalled 3 or 4 times each!

Thanks for the explanation about the blurring with jpg and bmp files. I greatly appreciate the knowledge. I'll stick with the PCStitch files.

And thanks for the info on PrimoPDF. I've used it but just to save print files. At your recommendation, I'm in the process of downloading the Foxit PDF Reader.

Your best best for saving any pattern is in it's base form "pat". The advantage of the pat format is you can print it for any size stitch. If you try that same trick with jpg or pdf files, they will blur! The graphic formats are just an "image" so if you try to zoom in on them, you do loose resolution. PCStitch files can't do that. They take the definition of the stitches, where, what kind, color ... and display that onto a grid of the appropriate size and so the symbol and grid are both crystal clear -- NO blur.

You can export to a JPG if you wish or you can use a 3rd party as a virtual printer and "print" to PDF to create a PDF but do watch for the blur factor.

I no longer recommend PrimoPDF as a virtual printer. I now use the logical printer that is associated with the free FoxIt PDF reader (Adobe clone). Unless you are a glutton for punishment -- avoid PrimoPDF!

Thanks for the info, the flip suggestion worked great.

I'm sorry I didn't explain saving "just the chart" very well. I meant saving it as a jpg file in multiple pages if it was a large chart. To be honest, when I wrote the original question I was thinking I wanted it in a jpg file, but right now I don't remember why. Maybe I was thinking if I got it to a jpg file, I could use Paint Shop to flip it and then print it from there. Now necessary, now that I know how to flip it in PCStitch.

It will take me a long time to become an expert with this program, but I'm happy to say that I've created one design chart for a wall hanging, approximately 24x24 inches for a sick friend. A Kokopelli in Southwest Colors, if you are familiar with Kokopellis. I'm crocheting the wall hanging now and about 1/4 finished with it. I have all kinds of ideas for other crochet projects.

I must say, I've very impressed with the bells and whistles in this program. It seems that a lot of work and thought went into it. Kudos to all y'all. :-)

You might know I have another question that I'm going to post in another few minutes.
As always, thanks for your help.

For a mirror image, there is a very easy way to do it. I prefer this method when doing a symmetrical design rather than using the mirror options.

All you have to do is use the "arrow" icon and draw a box over all that you want to "mirror". Select "Copy" (icon looks like two pieces of paper) or "Cut" (looks like a pair of scissors). Then select "Paste" (clipboard with paper on it). It will place it in the upper left hand corner of the pattern display area so you need to move it where you want it. But before you "place" it, right click and select one of the "flip" options -- flip horizontal or flip vertical -- or both, one after the other. A horizontal flip will make a mirror image of it in the "normal" thought -- an image facing left is now facing right. A vertical flip turns it upside down.

As for your other question. I'm not sure what you mean by "just the chart". That's basically what a save does. It does include your current settings for zoom and the patter properties but I don't know what you mean. If you'll explain farther, maybe I can either answer or clarify some misunderstanding.

Good Luck,

Diane
