Posted - 12/05/2014 : 21:29:56 I did all the graphic editing to make a black and white image that is exactly the same size (1 pixel per square) as the chart.
I tell the import wizard the exact number of squares, and limit it to 2 colors.... but it still messes up the picture! If I increase the colors, it still messes up. Argghh!
It keeps adding and subtracting pixels so that the chart does not match the original image.
My image is really simple, only 38x46 squares… why is PC Stitch messing it up?
Thanks!

Posted - 12/06/2014 : 07:43:30 The problem is probably that you see the picture differently than PCStitch does. The best images are done when you have a 1 pixel / 1 stitch ratio. That way the computer only has to evaluate one pixel and convert that to it's interpretation of the color. If there is more than one pixel/stitch, it has to somehow "blend" what it sees into a single color.
Also, the color definition it sees is not what you see. Blurring of what you see as discrete sharp lines is the most common effect.
Also -- no conversion will be perfect. Even with a simple cartoony image, it can take hours of "tweaking" to get the image you want. Curves are not as smooth as you want, sharp lines aren't as sharp and there are always confetti stitches that you swear are not in the original image.
It's just part of the project. You and the computer look at the image in different ways. Just be prepared for tweaking even for the most simple project.
I once did a basic outlined (black border) image that had a total of 5 colors. It still took me at least 5 or 6 hours of tweaking to get what I wanted -- including keeping the main part of the image symmetric and inserting a few backstitches where the black border was just too fine for the conversion to handle properly.
Diane There is no such thing as a stupid question
