Hi, I currently get a pop up when exporting charts with alphabets. The pop up received states that the alphabet is subject to copyright and that I must agree to keep the chart to personal use. Is there a licence I can buy that will allow me to export and then give or sell my designs made with the alphabets? If so, where can I find it? Thank you.

Copyright is a complex issue and each pattern for each type of craft is the decision of the designer. If a designer says that you may share the pattern, then you may. If the designer says you may not share the pattern, then any sharing, including using a portion of the pattern, or modifying the pattern is a violation of copyright.

There is far far far too much copyright violation out there. Some well known designers have stopped designing at all because of copyright violation. If you share a pattern in violation of copyright, you are literally taking food from the mouths of the designer and his/her family.

I have looked in several of my pattern books, and on the inside covers it states that you have the right to sell your finished work, but not the pattern. I have found free patterns online for crochet, and cross stitch and every patterns ask you give credit to the author if you share the pattern.

Hi Dragonlair, Thank you so much for your help. I will look for Mark's contact details. It would be really lovely if I could just pay an extra fee for licensing. I'm sure others would be happy to do so. Cheers!

If you are using any of the alphabets that are provided with PCStitch, I don't know if there is a way. Only checking with Mark would tell that for sure.

The only way around that is to create your own alphabet and use it and do NOT OPEN the font library at all during pattern creation. Just opening the stitched fonts or the motif library will make that message appear.
