I have found a nice picture on the web which I imported in PC Stitch pro. What can I do to change the final size of the design? It now has 239 stitches H and 150 stitches W. Which is a bit much as I prefer stitching it on 14 count.
Do you have to reduce the size of the original picture you use to import or how do you go about?
I haven't used PCStitch pro much yet as my stitching bug was gone the past 3 years. But it's back now and I really would like to use it and design some stuff for myself. But I'm a bit confused. Any help please?! Thanks!!!

When you import a photo, you say what size in stitches it should be. For the best results, you should try to have 1 pixel/stitch. That usually means you need to shrink your original down (a copy, actually) to about the size in pixels that you want for your stitching. The resulting photo looks tiny but it does give the best results.

Good grief!!!! So I have to resize the image before importing it!!!! Thank gawd you are around Never gave it a thought!
I just tried it. Final result in PCStitch is not as beautifull though as the first try out which I did without shrinking the image. Think for this one I'm going to use a 16 or 18 count cloth instead of my 14 count. But it is a relief for me to understand I should shrink before I start THANKS A MILLION!!!!

I have to say it - I've not stitched for a few weeks and I still itch! I'm just getting over a bad case of poison ivy on my back!

I thought if you reduced the size of the picture that it will degrade the quality of the image. I've been trying to import some beautiful art like Godward, Waterhouse, Leighton and when I reduce the size of the image the result is a poor blurry version which doesn't look good.

Karen,
When working with photos of classic paintings, there will always be a limit. Usually, the result will be "blockiness" rather than "blurred". If you don't reduce, you end up with the program trying to represent a large number of pixels as a single stitch can end up with even more blurriness as well as a larger chance of confetti stitches.
You have to balance the two together.
You might consider myriacrossPic which can do some color reduction BEFORE it converts to a pattern and that might work better. It also has a small editor for minor tweaking. Then you could use myriaCross (the base converter product) to convert it to a PCStitch file for final tweaking. Or you could do the color reduction and then save it as an image file and then import it into PCStitch for conversion to a pattern. Choices. choices, choices!
