While rummaging through stuff, I found a CD with PC Stitch Lite and 500 patterns on it. My question is: If I download the CD with PC Lite can I use the patterns with my PC Stitch 7 Standard?

Charlie,

I am guessing that you found one of the Pattern Pieces Libraries.

Yes, you can use the patterns with PCStitch 7. They are actually small motifs to be used as "building blocks" for a pattern and not really independent patterns.

What you should do is install the CD. Put it in a separate folder from your Current PCStitch. This is to prevent confusion of having Lite and 7 together. This is especially true because there are two version of Lite; Lite (based on 6) and Lite 7 (based on 7).

Once you install it, copy the contents of the Libraries and Stitched Fonts folders over to the corresponding folders in PCStitch 7.

Then open PCStitch 7 and go to the libraries. It will see the new items and "synchronize them". What it is doing is creating thumbnail images of the individual motifs. Do the same for the Stitched fonts. Your particular CD may not have both but it's a good idea to be sure.

Now you are ready to use the motifs.

You may have one slight problem. The installation of Lite may "steal" the .pat extension from 7. To get it back you may have to "partially" uninstall 7. Go to your Add/Remove (Program Features in Vista) and click on PCStitch 7. When you get to the question of actually removing the product, say NO. It will take back the extension. You can also try to right click on a file, select PCStitch 7 (even if you have to search the folders and select it manually) and say it is the default. Sometimes that works and sometimes it works but changes the icon slightly. Either way, you can get 7 to become the default for .pat files.

You may additionally be asked to register the CD. If so, please do it.

Diane

Thanks; Diane. I may be asking more questions and you will have to revise your signature re: stupid questions.

Again; Thanks

I use PC Stitch to design weave patterns for fishing rods. Works rather well. C2
